Nature Conservancy of Texas Features Writing From My Life Outdoors
A week or so ago The Nature Conservancy of Texas asked if I would be willing to write a freelance piece about their Annual Christmas Tree Hunt. My Fmaily and I have always wanted to participate in such a tradition. So we headed down to the Davis Mountain Preserve to hunt for the perfect Christmas Tree. You can read about our trip on TNC's website Nature.org/Texas
Smokestack Restaurant – Thurber Texas, Population: 5
If you have ever driven through Thurber Texas, you probably didn’t realize it. There isn’t much there other than a couple of restaurants and a few historic buildings. With a population of only 5 people it is possible that more people commute into Thurber to work then actually live there. Don’t let its small size fool you….there is plenty of reason to visit this small town.Thurber's Smokestack RestaurantThurber's Smokestack signThe number one reason you should visit Thurber is the Smokestack
Devil’s River Texas – Public Access Might Increase
In an amazing turn of events Texas may actually see an increase in public access to the pristine Devil's River. This land swap/purchase proposal was bad news for Texas

Gerber Crucial Multi Tool – Review
For the last week or so I have been carrying around a Gerber Crucial Multi-Tool. The folks at OutdoorPros.com were kind enough to send me one to review. I admit that I haven’t been able to take the tool on any outdoor adventures…but then again the tool seems to be more of an everyday multi-tool then a backpacking tool.At first look the Gerber Crucial is a very attractive tool. 2011 Big Bend National Park Calendar – $14.99
I have been trying to avoid writing a post about “outdoor gift ideas.” That is until I ran across the Big Bend National Park 2011 Calendar. When I have the time I like to poke around on BigBendChat.com…a outdoor forum for all things BigBend. Every year photos are submitted by forum members to be included in the annual calendar. This year some wonderful pictures have been selected. I thought I wouldn’t be saying this…but…it’s the perfect gift for that outdoorsy person
