Areas of Big Bend National Park Closed Due to Fire Danger
I'm a little late reporting this, but I just found out Big Bend National Park has closed the High Chisos Backcountry campsites due to extreme fire danger. dispersed (zone) camping in the Blue Creek and Lower Juniper Zones are closed as well. Day hiking is still allowed on the Chisos Mountains trails, but there is a ban on any flame including smoking. Davis Mountains Wildfire Update – April 12, 2011
Fires continue to rage north of Fort Davis. It is reported 108,000 acres have been burned between Marfa and Fort Davis. At this time only 10% of the fire is contained. Davis Mountains State Park is closed and is being used as a base camp for hundreds of firefighters. Ski Cooper – Virtual Tour Video
I am continuing my obsession with Ski Cooper. I got to ski there again a couple of weeks ago. I spent three days on the slopes and skied just about every run available. As I have written about before, Ski Cooper is one of the oldest (if not the oldest) still operating Ski Area in Colorado. The 10th Mountain Division Ski Troopers trained there during World War II. I fell in love with this small Mountain when I was a
